Area Shading

The task is now, to colorize the individual regions according to the sales data imported in the previous step. The analysis Area Shading is suitable for this.

  • Open the menu Analysis.
  • Select the command Area Shading.

Specify which table contains the data to be displayed and on which sheet or in which map this data is to be displayed.

  • Data from table... = "Customer base"
  • ...visualize in map = "Sheet 1/Map 1"

In the second row, the column with the area number is linked to the appropriate layer on the map. Choose here:

  • ID column = "PC2"
  • Reference = "Postleitregionen - Areas"

  • Then click Next.

EasyMap automatically inserts a surface color on the sheet and opens a Properties window on the right side of the program window. The remaining details for the data-dependent surface coloring are defined there.

The Data Column controls the coloring in the map. Choose here:

  • Column = "Total turnover"

The setting Aggregation allows you to decide how several data records which relating to an area are aggregated. The default can be maintained, so:

  • Aggregation = Sum

Next, the type of visualisation should be selected. The default type Classified is suitable for our exercise. Thus, you only need to determine the Count of Classes and the Classification:

  • Count = 3
  • Classification = Equidistributed

The area shading in the map represents the turnover achieved per postcode region by three value classes.

How to create a surface color in EasyMap is also explained in this video:
