Sales Territory Planning

The EasyMap DistrictManager Edition allows you to create and visualize territory structures. This chapter describes how you can create a new territory structure.

Please note that this exercise can only be performed with the EasyMap DistrictManager Edition. When you install the demo version of EasyMap, you have the option of choosing one of the two editions.

If the EasyMap demo version is already installed, you can change the version later. Click in EasyMap in the menu ? on the menu item About EasyMap. Then click the View License Information button and in the following steps, click Change License, Demo Version, and in the last step, click EasyMap DistrictManager Edition. EasyMap then restarts in the selected edition.

Step 1: Insert a base map

Open a new program window:

  • File > New Window

Insert a map from the control window Base maps on "Sheet 1".

  • To do this, you can drag and drop level 3 of the 982 postal routing areas from the folder Demo Maps, subfolder Germany, postal zone 2 onto the sheet. You can also add the topography.

Step 2: Planning Mode

In order to create an area structure, please activate the planning mode first.

  • Territory Organisation menu > Planning Mode

Only now are the corresponding commands available to you. Also the control window Territory organization is now open and can be used.

Step 3: Create New Territory Structure

  • Click on Territory Organization in the menu bar.
  • Select the command Create new territory structure....

A wizard will open and guide you through the creation of a territory structure.

In the first step of the wizard you can define the levels for your structure. At the bottom is the brick level. On the basis of the bricks, all the levels based on them are aggregated. With the button Insert more layers you can directly create the next coarser layer and name it. Here, however, we limit ourselves to a territorial structure with only one level. In the first step of the wizard, make the following settings:

  • On which brick level should the territory structure be based on? = Demo maps • Germany • Postcode Zone 2 • Postcode areas
  • Name of Level = "Territory"
  • Click Next.

Step 4: Using Basic Data

Basic Data contains information auch as area IDs and names, and may be used for naming and analyzing data easily. So you can use for example the names of the sales reps who are responsible for a certain territory structure.

  • Choose yes and the dialog window offers further setting options.
  • Access the Excel file "Sample Data" by clicking the Load Temporary Data... button.

  • Select the table "Sales territories" and click Next.
  • Define the column "Territory ID" as data type Key.
  • Click Finish to close the import wizard.

Below, you can see what the dialog box should look like:

  • Then click Next.

Step 5: Using an Assignment Table

An assignment table is used to assign areas of finer levels to areas of coarser levels. An assignment table therefore consists of two columns in which this assignment is defined.

Since an assignment table exists in the Excel workbook "Example data.xlsx", you can use the Specify planning levels step: Assignment table now select the second radio button:

  • The assignments postal code areas > areas exist in a table.
  • Access the Excel workbook "Example data.xlsx" via the icon button Load temporary data... .
  • Select the table sheet "Assignment table".
  • Define the individual columns according to Exercise 1/ Step 2.
  • Then click in the Import Wizard on Finish.

The allocation table consists of the two columns "Postcode" and "Area".

The allocation result and the number of areas for the data should be 100% in both areas.

  • Click Next

Step 6: Finish the structure

In the next step confirm the representation of this structure on "Page 1/Map 1".

  • Via the Complete button, the territory structure is created and displayed on the map.

For each level of the territory structure, a table is created in addition to the map display. Of course, for the "sales territories" level, corresponding levels are also created in the Content control window, such as Labelling, Borders and Areas. These layers can be adjusted as usual via the context menu Properties.

Continue with the next step - Publish and share maps.
