Map

The map represents an area on the sheet where geography related objects can be inserted. The map is connected to a section of the map that determines the visible area. A clip map is also usually defined on the basis of a map and then applies uniformly to the entire content of the map.

Inserting a new map

Unlike most other objects, a map cannot be created directly from the control window Objects. You have the following options for creating a new map:

• Drag a layer from the control window base maps onto an empty area of a sheet or press the CTRL key while releasing the map layers over an existing map on the sheet.
• Use the command Insert into > New map in in the context menu of the control window base maps.
• Use from the main menu Insert the command New map.

In all cases, easymap automatically creates a new map object and inserts the desired layers into this map.

Add more layers to an existing map

If the sheet already contains a map, the new layers can be inserted either as additional layers in the existing map or as a new map on the sheet.

• Use Drag&Drop to drag a layer from the control window base maps to the existing map on the open sheet.
• Use the Insert into > Map xy command in the context menu of the control window base maps.

Content of maps

Usually Layers are inserted within the map, which contain the displayed elements themselves. Also road maps and georeferenced raster maps are always inserted into maps and cannot lie directly on the sheet.

However, other objects can also be inserted into a map. The special feature in contrast to inserting on a sheet is that these objects are bound to a fixed geographical position.

So if the map section changes for any reason, e.g. after clip mapen, these objects keep their position relative to the other elements on the map. Objects on the sheet, on the other hand, always maintain their position relative to the sheet. You can drag an object into the map by dragging it from the Object window onto a map with Drag&Drop while holding down Ctrl.

Adjust map view

By default, easymap adjusts the map section for you so that the entire content is visible. In individual cases it may be useful to be able to define the displayed section in a targeted manner. The following commands from the menu View support you in this process:

• Fit all levels: Change the map section so that the entire content is visible.
• Zoom within the selected map: With the usual zoom functions Zoom functions you can define and fix the map section - how it works here.

Note: The two functions can only be used if the map is marked (recognizable by the hatched frame around the map or by a blue highlight in the control window content).

Properties

Select the area whose setting options you want to see in detail.

Commands

You can right-click on an object in the control window Contents or on a selected object in the map window to open its context menu. This offers some actions that can be performed on this object.
